Security Update for Halloween
This year Halloween went very well. The Security Patrol had an extra marked security car on patrol all day and night, as well as an unmarked car during peak mischievous hours. All cars had at least 2 guards inside all day. We had some times when the activity of some of the young people in the area was on the verge of getting out of hand. During those times the patrol was at the scene immediately and able to get the situation under control. The police were called by the patrol on two incidents that night, but the police were busy elsewhere and the patrol was able to handle things on our patroled properties. The police did eventually get into the neighborhood both times we called, and the second time they came in force. The young people involved in all the incidents were mostly cooperative in moving off patrolled properties, and seemed to understand that getting arrested for vandalism on Halloween just isn't worth it. N.C.P. Meets with the Police CommissionerPam Goldstein, the president of N.C.P. and Security Patrol supervisor Capt. Debbie Velez recently attended a meeting with New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly. They both said he was a very intelligent and caring man who seemed to want to help with our neighborhood problems. Pam said he was an easy man to talk to and she has pointed out the obvious increase in police presence in the neighborhood since their meeting. The Police Commissioner announced a new program to speed up response to non emergency calls to police. Due to start in January 2003, the new program would still use 911 for emergencies , but you would call 311 for non emergency police assistance.
